This week, 51 young women from across the United States will compete to become Miss America 2022. Among them will be Leah Roddenberry, Miss Florida 2021, who was a 2017 recipient of a scholarship from the Manatee County Gator Club.
Roddenberry is a native of Bradenton, Florida. Prior to becoming Miss Florida 2021, Roddenberry was Miss Florida's Outstanding Teen in 2013 and 2015, Miss University of Florida 2019, and Miss Tampa 2020.
During her college career at the University of Florida, Roddenberry was very involved on campus and in the community. She was a member of the Dazzlers dance team for four years, the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, and Florida Blue Key. She also served with organizations dedicated to encouraging young people to vote and engage with their community. Along with helping other organizations, Roddenberry also started her own nonprofit organization called "Be a LeadHER: Igniting the Spark Within" with the goal of helping young women "dream bigger" and "pursue goals they never thought possible".
In July 2020, Roddenberry published a book called "Leah Goes to Washington" to "inspire elementary-age children, especially young girls, to learn about civics in a fun and interactive way".
Roddenberry graduated from the University of Florida in May 2021 with a degree in Family, Youth, and Community Sciences. She earned cum laude honors and lists her career goals on her Miss America profile as graduating law school and to "serve as a corporate communications specialist and eventually in a national press secretary role".
The Manatee County Gator Club was proud to have Leah Roddenberry join us for our 2021 Florida-Georgia Watch Party and Carnival in October to support our scholarship fund.
The 100th Anniversary Miss America Competition will air on Peacock on December 16, 2021 at 8:00pm EST.
